Peace and investment talks between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed the implementation of infrastructure and investment projects in a telephone conversation.

 

According to the Turkmen news and analysis website; In a telephone conversation, Uzbek President Shaukat Mirziyoyev and Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani discussed the implementation of infrastructure projects and the attraction of investment to help Afghanistan’s sustainable development and economic prosperity in the region.

 

At the beginning of the telephone conversation, the presidents congratulated each other on Eid al-Adha and wished peace, tranquility and prosperity to the brotherly people of the two countries.

 

In this telephone conversation, current issues and the further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, energy and transportation were discussed.

 

Mirziyoyev and Ashraf Ghani supported measures taken in the two countries to combat the corona outbreak and control the epidemiological situation. They also stressed the importance of reducing the negative consequences of the pandemic and maintaining the pace of development of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

 

The presidents stressed the need to step up efforts to advance infrastructure projects and attract investment to help Afghanistan’s sustainable development and regional economic prosperity.

 

During the meeting, they mentioned the establishment of a commercial-logistics infrastructure in the border areas, the implementation of major projects for the construction of the Sarkhan-Pul-e-Khumri power transmission line and efficient transportation corridors in Afghanistan, such as attracting sponsors and international financial institutions.

 

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan also reviewed the peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and expressed support for the work being done to speed up the start of inter-Afghan talks.

 

Mohammad Ashraf Ghani presented the historical role of the Tashkent International Conference on Afghanistan, which was held in March 2018.

 

At the end of the telephone conversation, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan reaffirmed their commitment to further expanding full cooperation in the interests of the two countries and the Central Asian region.

 

Trade between the two countries in 2019 amounted to $ 618 million.

 

There are currently 110 companies with Afghan investors in Uzbekistan and eight in Afghanistan with Uzbek businessmen.

 

Afghanistan recognized its independence on December 22, 1991, and on October 13, 1992, diplomatic relations were established between the two countries.
